Motor City Scholars is expanding educational opportunities for Detroit area youth who aspire to further their education or career training.

We recognize the various challenges faced by students pursuing higher education and aim to bridge the gap, ensuring that financial barriers do not impede the academic and personal growth of these promising individuals. 

Motor City Scholars provides support in the following areas:

College-ready computers:

In today's educational landscape, a reliable computer is indispensable for academic success. Course assignments, research, and communication with faculty and peers increasingly depend on technology. The lack of a college-ready computer can be a significant barrier to keeping pace with coursework and participating fully in the academic community.

Dorm-room setup:

To cover the cost of dormitory room essentials, including bedding, storage solutions, towels, and toiletries.  Setting up a dorm room requires an outlay of funds that can be prohibitive for students. These essentials create a comfortable living environment, which is crucial for students to focus on their studies without the added stress of financial constraints.

Emergency funds:

Unexpected financial emergencies can derail a student's educational journey, especially for those already facing financial hardships. By providing emergency funds, the foundation ensures that students can navigate these challenges without compromising their education.

Travel funds:

Travel expenses can accumulate, making it difficult for students to afford home visits during breaks or to manage commuting costs if living off-campus. These funds aim to alleviate the burden of travel expenses, ensuring students maintain a connection with their support systems without financial strain.

Students pursuing either college or vocational training are eligible to apply.
